Massage during pregnancy — what to know before your first session

Pregnancy changes the body quickly, and the lower back, the back and the legs carry the most. A massage can help — but only if it is done properly and at the right time. Here is what to know before you book your first session.

From which month

Usually after the first trimester. If you are at the very beginning, or your pregnancy is considered high-risk, that is a question for your doctor, not for us. Ask them and we will wait for the answer without rushing you.

In which position

On your side, with pillows for the belly, the lower back and between the knees. Not on the stomach, and not on the back for long. The position is set up with you before we start, and changed if you become uncomfortable halfway.

What is worked on

Most often the lower back, the back and the legs — the three places that carry the most in these months. The pressure is lighter than in a regular massage and the pace slower. The goal is not deep work, but for the body to rest.

What you can expect

The lower back feels lighter, the heaviness in the legs eases, the body lets go. Many women fall asleep during the session — which is a good sign, not an inconvenience.

The massage does not treat anything and does not replace your check-ups. It is care for the body while it carries more than usual.

When to ask a doctor first

If your pregnancy is considered high-risk. If you have pain you do not recognise, or something in your body worries you. If your doctor has told you to take it easy. In all of these cases you ask them first, and the massage waits.

Practical

Tell us which month you are in when you book, so we can prepare the room in advance. The session is 60 minutes.

The pregnancy massage can also be given as a gift voucher — for exactly this massage.

Frequently asked questions

From which month can I come?

Usually after the first trimester. If you are unsure or the pregnancy is high-risk, the decision is your doctor's.

Is it safe?

The massage is done in a position adapted to the belly, with lighter pressure. Whether it suits you in particular is your doctor's call — if you are unsure, ask them first.

Will I have to lie on my stomach?

No. The massage is done on your side, with pillows, and the position changes if you become uncomfortable.

How long is it and how much does it cost?

60 minutes, €60.
